Why is a searched entity not flagged even though there are media articles linking it to a sanctioned entity?

The sanction alerts reflect the sanctioned entities themselves. If an entity is not sanctioned, it will not appear in the sanction screening. For example, if a company is linked to a sanctioned vessel (ship), but is not sanctioned itself, it will not appear in the sanction screening. Of course if the vessel itself is screened, the sanctions would be flagged.

Also note that a link to a sanctioned entity does not, in itself, warrant inclusion in the “Adverse Media” category. Under the methodology applied, which is aligned with global standards as FATF and AMLD, “Adverse Media” means credible data of a person being charged / indicted / prosecuted / convicted / sentenced in relation to crimes that fall in certain categories such as terrorism, organised crime, modern slavery, financial crime and fraud, bribery and corruption and cybercrime. The fact that an article, for example, links a person to a sanctioned entity, does not fall into the above stated definition.
